Regular Season Round 15: Suduva - Fortuna 68-59

An exciting game was played in Marijampole. First ranked Suduva faced 4th placed Fortuna. Host Suduva (13-2) defeated guests from Klaipeda (7-8) 68-59. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-13. But Fortuna won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Suduva dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Fortuna's 30. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) who scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Ieva Simkute (192-89) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Suduva players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Lina Mikeleviciene (182-87) who recorded 18 points and the former international guard Andra Andra Gabalyte (179-80, college: Liberty) added 13 points respectively. Fortuna's coach Vilius Stanisauskas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Suduva maintains first place with 13-2 record. Fortuna at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Suduva are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ukmerges (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Fortuna will play against Siauliai-Univ. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
