Regular Season Round 14: BG 89 Avides - Halle 65-82
Date: January 21, 2017
Rather expected game when 12th ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (3-11) lost at home to tenth ranked SV Halle Lions (5-8) 82-65. It looked good early as Rotenburg/Scheessel took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then SV Halle Lions had a 21-15 second period charge getting the lead and Rotenburg/Scheessel was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-82. It was a great shooting night for SV Halle Lions especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Janee Thompson (170-93, college: Kentucky) who scored 21 points and 4 assists. The other American import forward Kaneisha Horn (185-92, college: USC, agency: Two Points) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Five SV Halle Lions players scored in double figures. SV Halle Lions' coach Rene Spandauw used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Janae Young (183-87, college: Pacific) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for the hosts. SV Halle Lions moved-up to ninth place. Rotenburg/Scheessel lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. SV Halle Lions' next round opponent will be higher ranked Hannover (#6) at home and it may be quite challenging game. Rotenburg/Scheessel will play against Herner TC (#5) and hope to win that game.
