Very important is a road loss of second ranked Benfica (12-4) against sixth ranked Illiabum (10-6) on Sunday night. Visiting Benfica was defeated by Illiabum in Ilhavo 85-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Benfica. The winners were led by American forward Rashad Bishop (198-88, college: Cincinnati, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who scored that evening 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and the former international Augusto Sobrinho (188-85) supported him with 15 points. Four Illiabum players scored in double figures. Illiabum's coach Ricardo Vasconcelos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points by international forward Joao Soares (202-90, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for Benfica. American Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) added 14 points for lost side. Newly promoted Illiabum maintains sixth position with 10-6 record. Benfica at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Vitoria SC. Illiabum will play against Lusitania (#10) in Angra in the next round. Benfica will play at home against Electrico FC (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
