Regular Season Round 14: Keltern II - Bad Hombur 69-78

Very expected game when 9th ranked Keltern II (3-10) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Homburger TG (8-4) 78-69 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-12. But Keltern II won second period 24-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Homburger TG dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Keltern II's 32 and made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Elena Popkey (168-94, college: Oakland) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) chipped in 21 points. Homburger TG's coach Jay Brown used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Kristi Mokube (188-93, college: George Mason) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and center Vanessa Seemann (182-88) added 10 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Keltern II players scored in double figures. Homburger TG maintains fourth position in South with 8-4 record. Newly promoted Keltern II keeps the ninth place with ten games lost. Homburger TG will face league's second-placed Don Bosco Bamberg at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Keltern II will play against Ladybaskets Wuerzburg (#3) and hope to win that game.
