Regular Season Round 11: Avangard - Tavriyska Zirka 118-66

Superleague top team - Avangard (12-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Tavriyska Zivka (0-13) in Kyiv 118-66. The game was mostly controlled by Avangard. Tavriyska Zivka was better in second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tavriyska Zivka to just 5 points in third quarter. Avangard dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Tavriyska Zivka's 36. Avangard forced 26 Tavriyska Zivka turnovers and outrebounded them 41-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 38 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Tavriyska Zivka's players. International center Olga Yatskovets (183-97) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Forward Viktoriya Kasatkina (187-92) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Five Avangard players scored in double figures. Avangard's coach Volodimir Kholopov felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Forward Svetlana Maliar (180-88) answered with 31 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Olga Malina (169-88) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Tavriyska Zivka. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Avangard. Newly promoted Avangard maintains first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Tim-Scuf. Tavriyska Zivka lost their thirteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 13 games lost. Avangard's next round opponent will be again bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zivka (#9) in Kherson and are hoping to win another game. Tavriyska Zivka will play at home against Interkhim and hopes to get finally their first victory.
