There was a small surprise in Lefkosa where thirteenth ranked Girne Univ. (4-11) defeated 11th ranked Mersin MBK (4-10) 66-60. Girne Univ. forced 19 Mersin MBK turnovers. Strangely Mersin MBK outrebounded Girne Univ. 38-23 including a 29-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Cappie Pondexter (175-83, college: Rutgers) who led the winners and scored 30 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import guard Courtney Williams (173-94, college: S.Florida) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. American center Michelle Snow (196-80, college: Tennessee, agency: LBM Management) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and Belgian point guard Noemie Mayombo (170-91, agency: LBM Management) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mersin MBK in the defeat. Girne Univ. moved-up to twelfth place. Mersin MBK lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. Girne Univ.'s next round opponent will be league's second-placed Galatasaray in Istanbul and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
