Regular Season Round 11: Avangard - Suzirja 79-56

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kyiv. First ranked host Avangard (12-1) smashed 4th placed Suzirja (8-6) 79-56. The game was mostly controlled by Avangard. Suzirja was better in fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Suzirja to just 6 points in first quarter. Avangard dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Suzirja's 28. Avangard forced 19 Suzirja turnovers and outrebounded them 45-31 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for international center Olga Yatskovets (183-97) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international guard Ievgeniia Spitkovska (174-88, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 15 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Guard Maria Dubas (182-84) came up with 9 points and point guard Nataliia Smaliuk (170-97) added 8 points and 4 assists respectively for Suzirja in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Avangard. Newly promoted Avangard maintains first place with 12-1 record, which they share with Tim-Scuf. Suzirja at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Avangard will play against bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zivka (#9) in Kherson in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Suzirja will play on the road against Blyskavky (#6) in Vinnytsia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
