Second Stage Round 6: Zalgiris II - Petrochema 78-74

Very predictable result in Kaunas where eighth ranked Zalgiris II (17-14) defeated bottom-ranked Petrochema (7-24) 78-74. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-14. But Petrochema won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris II made 22-of-28 charity shots (78.6 percent) during the game. Zalgiris II outrebounded Petrochema 44-29 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Petrochema was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Gytis Masiulis (206-98) notched 24 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Kristupas Zemaitis (192-96) supported him with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Zalgiris II players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 24 points and 4 steals by point guard Lukas Grabauskas (194-95) did not help to save the game for Petrochema. Guard Ricardas Verbickas (191-95) added 16 points. Zalgiris II have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Silute and Perlas-MRU. Petrochema at the other side dropped to the bottom. They share the position with Ezerunas-Karys. Zalgiris II will play against Ezerunas-Karys (#13) in Moletai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Petrochema will play on the road against Palanga and hopes to get back on the winning track.
