Important game to mention about took place in Mersin. Second ranked Galatasaray (12-3) saved a 1-point derby victory on the road edging 6th ranked Mersin BSB (8-8) 71-70 on Saturday evening. Galatasaray forced 22 Mersin BSB turnovers. Strangely Mersin BSB outrebounded Galatasaray 45-25 including a 34-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international guard Isil Alben (170-86, agency: 1x1 Sports) who saved her team from a defeat with 20 points and 4 assists. American point guard Moriah Jefferson (170-94, college: Connecticut) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Galatasaray's coach Marina Maljkovic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (196-89) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international point guard Nilay Kartaltepe (172-79) added 9 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Mersin BSB. Galatasaray have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-3 record behind leader Fenerbahce. Mersin BSB at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Galatasaray will play against Girne Univ. (#12) in Lefkosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mersin BSB will play on the road against Abdullah Gul (#4) in Kayseri and hopes to get back on the winning track.
