Regular Season Round 21: Urla BLD - Cankaya 69-74

Very expected game when 11th ranked Urla BLD (10-11) lost to sixth ranked Cankaya (15-5) in Izmir 69-74 on Sunday. Cankaya dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Urla BLD's 30. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for American-Azerbaijani center Marcedes Marie Walker (191-86, college: Pittsburgh) who led her team to a victory with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Hande Celebi (-90) contributed with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Ayse Akinci (175-82) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Melda Baltaci (180-92) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Urla BLD. Four Urla BLD players scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Cankaya. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Bodrum. Loser Urla BLD keeps the eleventh position with 11 games lost. Cankaya will face bottom-ranked 55 Genclik (#20) in Samsun in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Urla BLD will play on the road against Mersin Uni (#8) and hope to win that game.
