Regular Season Round 22: Bornova - Mersin Gelisim 106-68

TKBL top team - Bornova (20-2) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Mersin Gelisim (13-9) 106-68. Bornova dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin Gelisim's 30. Bornova forced 25 Mersin Gelisim turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Mersin Gelisim's players. American center Chanita Jordan (196-87, college: Bowie St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Gulsah Akkaya (181-77, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Bornova players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international center Melike Yalcinkaya (189-93) responded with 10 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Yaren Uslular (167-97) scored 14 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bornova have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 20-2 record. Mersin Gelisim lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with nine games lost. Bornova are looking forward to face Orduspor (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mersin Gelisim will play against Anadolu Univ. and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
