Regular Season Round 20: Targu Mures - Steaua CSM 87-93 OT

Targu Mures (#7) forced the game against Steaua CSM (#2) into an overtime, but lost by six points 87-93 on Saturday night. The game took place in Mures. But the guests from Bucuresti were better at the end. Targu Mures were trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 6-point lead after three quarters before a 23-17 charge of Steaua CSM, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-9. Steaua CSM made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Targu Mures were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86, agency: Octagon Europe) who helped to win the game recording 31 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and American power forward Randal Falker (201-85, college: S.Illinois) who added 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Montenegrin point guard Goran Martinic (187-87) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Latvian forward Ernests Kalve (200-87, agency: HMS) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Targu Mures' coach Barnabas Szaszgaspar rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Steaua CSM maintains second position with 13-5 record having just three points less than leader UBT Cluj Napoca. Targu Mures at the other side keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Steaua CSM will have a break next round. Targu Mures will play on the road against Craiova (#10) and hope to win that game.
