Regular Season Round 16: Opladen - Neuss 70-68

The most exciting game of round 16 in the 2. Bundesliga took place in Leverkusen. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked TG Neuss (11-5) to seventh ranked SG BBZ Opladen (8-8) 70-68 on Sunday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-14. But TG Neuss won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. 25 personal fouls committed by TG Neuss helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian guard Jill Stratton (180-91) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and center Julia Krause (195-85) who added 10 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Dara Taylor (173-91, college: Penn St.) responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Deanna Weaver (180, college: Boise St.) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. SG BBZ Opladen have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position in North with 8-8 record. TG Neuss lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Osnabruck SC. SG BBZ Opladen are looking forward to face league's second-placed Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. TG Neuss will play against Barmer TV and are hoping to win this game.
