There was no surprise when 19th ranked Anadolu Univ. (1-22) was defeated on the road by ninth ranked Mersin Gelisim (14-9) 64-48 on Sunday. Mersin Gelisim forced 22 Anadolu Univ. turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Nadia Parker (191-87, college: USC) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Fahriye Bayraktar (185-95) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Parker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Mersin Gelisim players scored in double figures. Mersin Gelisim's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Marie Malone (189-89, college: Hofstra) produced 15 points and 9 rebounds and center Ozge Bilgin (-94) added 8 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Mersin Gelisim moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Elazig. Anadolu Univ. lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the nineteenth position with 22 games lost. Mersin Gelisim will face league's second-placed Ormanspor in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Anadolu Univ. will play at home against Orduspor (#10) and hope to win that game.
