Regular Season Round 12: Tavriyska Zirka - Avangard 53-117

Leader Avangard delivered the fourteenth victory. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Tavriyska Zivka (0-15) 117-53 in Kherson. The game without a history. Avangard led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tavriyska Zivka to just 5 points in third quarter and to 14 points in second half. Avangard dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Tavriyska Zivka's 20. They outrebounded Tavriyska Zivka 50-32 including a 40-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Avangard players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Tavriyska Zivka's players. It was a good game for international center Olga Yatskovets (183-97) who led her team to a victory with 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Guard Oleksandra Polishchuk (178-87, college: Gonzaga) contributed with 14 points, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Avangard players scored in double figures. Avangard's coach Volodimir Kholopov felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Svetlana Maliar (180-88) replied with 13 points and 6 rebounds and forward Daria Shtura (174-94) added 11 points in the effort for Tavriyska Zivka. Avangard (14-1) have an impressive 13-game winning streak. Newly promoted Avangard maintains first position, which they share with Tim-Scuf. Tavriyska Zivka at the other side still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Avangard will play against Interkhim (#3) in Odessa in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Tavriyska Zivka will play on the road against DVUFK (#8) in Dnepropetrovsk and hopes to get finally their first victory.
