Regular Season Round 21: BC Timisoara - CSU Sibiu 72-73

The most exciting game of round 21 in the Liga Nationala took place in Timisoara. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked BC Timisoara (12-8) to third ranked CSU Sibiu (13-6) 73-72 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of BC Timisoara. BC Timisoara was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 19-10 charge of CSU Sibiu, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by BC Timisoara helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Bogdan Popescu (200-78, college: Alaska-Fairb.) who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Kevin Hardy (188-93, college: McNeese St.) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Ionut Dragusin (221-85) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and American swingman Jonte Flowers (196-85, college: Winona St.) added 7 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. CSU Sibiu have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-6 record having four points less than leader UBT Cluj Napoca. BC Timisoara at the other side dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Pitesti. CSU Sibiu are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Olimpic (#11) in Baia Mare in the next round and are hoping to win another game. BC Timisoara will have a break next round.
