Regular Season Round 23: Pertevniyal - Mamak DSI 83-82

Seventeenth-ranked Mamak DSI (4-19) gave a tough game to fourteenth ranked Pertevniyal (8-15) in Istanbul on Saturday. Pertevniyal managed to secure only one-point victory 83-82. However their fans expected easier game. Pertevniyal outrebounded Mamak DSI 41-28 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mamak DSI was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Ege Arar (208-96) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Cagdas Erdogan (188-88) helped adding 20 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Pertevniyal's coach Andac Yapicier used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St., agency: Two Points) responded with 24 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the former international center Umit Turkoglu (211-81) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pertevniyal moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Yalova Bld. Mamak DSI lost thirteenth consecutive game. They keep the seventeenth position with 19 games lost. Pertevniyal will face higher ranked Socar Petkim (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mamak DSI will play against Bursaspor (#6) and hope to win that game.
