The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Bornova (22-3) on the court of sixteenth ranked Istanbulgucu on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Istanbulgucu 87-59. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Bornova. Istanbulgucu made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Bornova turnovers and had a 29-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Bornova helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American center Molly Schlemer (196-92, college: Cal Poly - SLO) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and point guard Ilayda Tokmak (170-93) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Istanbulgucu players scored in double figures. Istanbulgucu's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American center Chanita Jordan (196-87, college: Bowie St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Esra Sencebe (173-81) scored 18 points and 4 assists. Istanbulgucu maintains sixteenth place with 9-16 record. Bornova at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Istanbulgucu are looking forward to face higher ranked Urla BLD (#11) in Izmir in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bornova will play on the road against Anadolu Univ. (#19) in Eskisehir and is hoping to win this game.
