Regular Season Round 14: Avangard - Dynamo-NPU 72-66

Date: February 16, 2017
The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kyiv: Avangard (#1) and Dynamo-NPU (#4). Avangard (16-1) won against visiting Dynamo-NPU (9-8) 72-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Dynamo-NPU. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Dynamo-NPU won third quarter 23-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Avangard forced 20 Dynamo-NPU turnovers. Swingman Viktoriya Kondus (175-97) scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Olena Ogorodnikova (187-81) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Avangard's coach Volodimir Kholopov used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American center Jasmine Peeples (188, college: Alabama St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds and her fellow American import guard Michelle Mitchell (175, college: Columbus St.) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Dynamo-NPU players scored in double figures. Avangard have an impressive 15-game winning streak. Newly promoted Avangard maintains first position with 16-1 record. Dynamo-NPU at the other side dropped to the sixth place with eight games lost. Avangard will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Dynamo-NPU will play on the road against DVUFK (#8) in Dnepropetrovsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
