Second Stage Round 11: KTU - Delikatesas 80-87

The game between closely ranked teams ended with tenth ranked Delikatesas' (15-21) road victory over 11th ranked KTU (13-23) in Kaunas 87-80 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-16. But KTU won third quarter 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Delikatesas made 27-of-31 free shots (87.1 percent) during the game, while KTU only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded KTU 34-20 including a 26-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Delikatesas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for center Nerijus Barauskas (207-92) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Sarunas Kulevicius (191-89) accounted for 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Delikatesas players scored in double figures. Point guard Matas Sapiega (178-90) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 assists and power forward Airidas Giedraitis (197-95) added 14 points respectively for KTU in the defeat. KTU's coach Vytautas Pliauga rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Delikatesas maintains tenth place with 15-21 record. Newly promoted KTU keeps the eleventh position with 23 games lost. They share it with Mazeikiai. Delikatesas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. KTU will play against Palanga (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
