Regular Season Round 26: Mersin Univ. - Ferko Ilgaz 65-61

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Ferko Ilgaz (12-14) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Mersin Uni (19-7) 65-61 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Mersin Uni forced 20 Ferko Ilgaz turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American center Sasha Goodlett (195-90, college: Georgia Tech) had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 24 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Merve Uygul (170-88) chipped in 9 points and 5 assists during the contest. Mersin Uni's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Merissa Quick (190-93, college: Emporia St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Melek Yusufoglu (168-94) scored 7 points and 8 rebounds. They have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Mersin Uni moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Izmit. Loser Ferko Ilgaz dropped to the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Mersin Uni will face TED Ankara (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ferko Ilgaz will play against Edirne and hope to win that game.
