Regular Season Round 23: Hamburg - Trier 82-85

Date: February 17, 2017
A very interesting game took place in Hamburg. It ended with only three-point home defeat of 10th ranked Hamburg (10-13) to eighth ranked Gladiators (12-11) 85-82 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hamburg. 25 personal fouls committed by Hamburg helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was point guard Simon Schmitz (188-90) who scored 30 points. American swingman Brandon Spearman (196-91, college: Hawaii) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Point guard Anthony Canty (183-91, agency: Octagon Europe) produced 26 points and 4 steals and American power forward Robert Ferguson (203-85, college: St.Joseph's) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Hamburg players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Gladiators moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hanau and Oettinger R. Hamburg at the other side keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. Gladiators' next round opponent will be White Wings (#6) in Hanau. Hamburg will play on the road against Chemnitz (#4) and hope to win that game.
