Second Stage Round 11: Petrochema - Zalgiris II 67-77

Very expected game when 14th ranked Petrochema (8-29) lost to eighth ranked Zalgiris II (21-15) in Jonava 67-77 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris II. Petrochema managed to win fourth quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 27-of-33 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Laurynas Birutis (213-97) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Power forward Gytis Masiulis (206-98) accounted for 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Zalgiris II's coach Tomas Masiulis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Lukas Grabauskas (192-95) came up with 13 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and swingman Mintautas Bulanovas (191-96) added 15 points respectively for Petrochema in the defeat. Four Petrochema players scored in double figures. Zalgiris II have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain eighth place with 21-15 record. Petrochema lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 29 lost games. Zalgiris II will meet Mazeikiai (#12) on the road in the next round. Petrochema will play against Ezerunas-Karys in Moletai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
