Regular Season Round 19: Niko-Basket - Zolotoi Vek 75-76

Rather expected game in Mykolaiv where 4th placed Niko-Basket (9-13) was edged by first ranked Zolotoi Vek (19-3) 76-75 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-12. But Niko-Basket won second period 22-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zolotoi Vek forced 20 Niko-Basket turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zolotoi Vek made 7 blocks. Gleb Buzko (192-92) fired 21 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Center Yevgen Vornik (208-86) chipped in 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Point guard Avgustyn Kozanchuk (182-95) produced 23 points and 5 assists and forward Sergiy Vershinin (195-95) added 11 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Zolotoi Vek. They maintain first place with 19-3 record. Niko-Basket lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 13 games lost. Zolotoi Vek will face Dnipro-2 (#3) in Dnepropetrovsk in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Niko-Basket will play on the road against Kremen-2 in Kremenchuk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
