Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Lusitania (5-16) lost to seventh ranked CAB Madeira (12-9) in Funchal 79-96. CAB Madeira players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American guard Alex Marzette (196-93, college: Robert Morris) stepped up and scored 27 points and 4 assists for the winners and Lithuanian forward Arvydas Gydra (206-89, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four CAB Madeira players scored in double figures. CAB Madeira's coach Joao Paulo Silva allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was naturalized Angolan forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American center Chris Matagrano (206-90, college: New Hampshire) scored 24 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The victory was the fifth consecutive win for CAB Madeira. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Illiabum. Lusitania lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 16 games lost. CAB Madeira will play against league's second-placed Benfica at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lusitania will play against Sampaense (#12) in Coimbra and hopes to get back on the winning track.
