Regular Season Round 19: Istanbul Univ. - Galatasaray 65-78

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Galatasaray (#4) and Istanbul Uni (#6). Istanbul Uni was defeated at home 65-78 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Istanbul Uni. Galatasaray looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Moriah Jefferson (170-94, college: Connecticut) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists. Belarusian forward Maryia Papova (189-94) contributed with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Tan White (170-82, college: Mississippi St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) answered with 19 points and Latvian power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Istanbul Uni. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Galatasaray maintains fourth place with 14-5 record. Istanbul Uni at the other side dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Galatasaray are looking forward to face Samsun (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Istanbul Uni will play against Girne Univ. (#11) in Lefkosa and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
