Regular Season Round 21: Leipzig - Fraport SKY II 65-97

Date: February 26, 2017
There was no surprise when 11th ranked USC Leipzig (7-14) was outplayed at home by ninth ranked Fraport Skyliners II (9-12) 97-65 on Sunday. Fraport Skyliners II outrebounded USC Leipzig 43-28 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American guard Travis Thompson (185-91, college: Alaska-Anch.) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and center Mahir Agva (206-96) chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds. Four Fraport Skyliners II players scored in double figures. Fraport Skyliners II's coach Eric Detlev felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The best for the losing side was American forward Jordan Faison (201-94, college: Cal Poly Pomona) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and Darian Cardenas (198-95) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Fraport Skyliners II. They moved-up to seventh place in South, which they share with Dragons and Wuerzburg. Loser USC Leipzig keeps the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Fraport Skyliners II will face Giants (#12) in Noerdlingen in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. USC Leipzig will play at home against Licher Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
