Regular Season Round 19: Goettingen - Gruenberg 50-36

Date: February 26, 2017
Rather predictable result when second ranked Goettingen (16-3) defeated at home 6th ranked Baskets Grunberg (8-11) 50-36 on Sunday. Goettingen dominated on the defensive end, holding Baskets Grunberg to just 2 points in second quarter and to 10 points in first half. Goettingen held Baskets Grunberg to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.9 percent accuracy of the winners. It was a great evening for American swingman Alissa Pierce (177-86) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Trinidad and Tobago center Verdine Warner (196-92, college: Shaw) helped adding 7 points and 10 rebounds. Goettingen's coach Giannis Koukos used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American swingman Sarah Olson (173-93, college: Monmouth) responded with 19 points and 5 rebounds and Canadian forward Vanessa Zailo (180-92, college: Lindenwood) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. The victory was the third consecutive win for Goettingen. They used an opportunity after Wolfenbuettel lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position in North. Loser Baskets Grunberg dropped to the seventh place with 11 games lost. Goettingen will face TG Neuss (#4) on the road in the next round. Baskets Grunberg will play against Osnabruecker and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
