Regular Season Round 20: Rhein MB - Speyer 62-48

Everything went according to plan in Langen where fifth ranked Rhein Main Baskets (11-7) won against 7th ranked Speyer / Schifferstadt (7-11) 62-48 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rhein Main Baskets. Speyer / Schifferstadt was better in third quarter 12-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rhein Main Baskets dominated on the defensive end, holding Speyer / Schifferstadt to just 6 points in first quarter. The best player for the winners was Lyndi Laborn who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Pia Dietrich (168-94) chipped in 18 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Forward Uta Gelbke (177-86) produced 9 points and 6 rebounds and forward Philippa Faul (181-95) added 10 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Rhein Main Baskets moved-up to fourth place in South, which they share with Bad Hombur. Speyer / Schifferstadt lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Rhein Main Baskets will face Keltern II (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Speyer / Schifferstadt will play against Weiterstadt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
