Date: March 4, 2017
The game between closely ranked teams ended with eighth ranked Baskets Grunberg's (9-11) road victory over 9th ranked Osnabruecker (7-13) 61-57 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Osnabruecker won third quarter 20-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Baskets Grunberg won last quarter 14-12. The best player for the winners was American swingman Sarah Olson (173-93, college: Monmouth) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Swingman Isabell Meinhart (178-94) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Elizabeth Belanger (178-94, college: New Hampshire) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and forward Janina Wellers (180-88) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Osnabruecker's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Baskets Grunberg moved-up to seventh place in North. Newly promoted Osnabruecker dropped to the tenth position with 13 games lost. Baskets Grunberg will face higher ranked SG BBZ Opladen (#5) in Leverkusen in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Osnabruecker will play at home against the league's second-placed Goettingen (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
