Regular Season Round 25: Zalgiris - Neptunas 69-78
Date: March 5, 2017
The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Zalgiris (22-3) in Kaunas on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Neptunas (14-11) 78-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zalgiris. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Zalgiris won third quarter 20-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Chris Lofton (188-86, college: Tennessee) who helped to win the game recording 20 points. His fellow American import Daniel Ewing (191-83, college: Duke, agency: Stealth Sport) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Neptunas players scored in double figures. The former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) answered with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and international guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) added 14 points in the effort for Zalgiris. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Neptunas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vytautas and Juventus. Defending champion Zalgiris still keeps top position with three games lost. Neptunas is looking forward to face Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zalgiris will play on the road against Vytautas (#5) in Prienai and is hoping to win this game.
