A very interesting game took place in Mersin. It ended with only two-point home defeat of higher ranked Mersin Gelisim (15-14) to fifteenth ranked Edirne (11-18) 70-68 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. American forward Arhonda Covington (185-85, college: Louisville) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Munevver Basak (168-86) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American center Nadia Parker (191-87, college: USC) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and the former international Fahriye Bayraktar (185-95) added 24 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Mersin Gelisim. Edirne moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Istanbulgucu. Mersin Gelisim lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Edirne's next round opponent will be higher ranked Orduspor (#13) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
