TKBL top team - Bornova (29-3) added another victory to their record on Tuesday. This time they beat sixth ranked Mersin Uni (22-9) 86-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mersin Uni. Bornova forced 24 Mersin Uni turnovers. Strangely Mersin Uni outrebounded Bornova 44-32 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a quality performance for American center Chanita Jordan (196-87, college: Bowie St., agency: Gamble Sports Management) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Gulsah Akkaya (181-77, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 29 points for the winning side. Five Bornova players scored in double figures. American center Sasha Goodlett (195-90, college: Georgia Tech) came up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Merve Uygul (170-88) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Mersin Uni in the defeat. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Bornova. They maintain first place with 29-3 record. Loser Mersin Uni keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Bornova will meet Edirne (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mersin Uni will play against Anadolu Univ. (#19) and hope to secure a win.
