There was no surprise when 11th ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (3-17) was outplayed at home by fourth ranked Homburger TG (12-8) 81-57 on Sunday. The game without a history. Homburger TG led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding ASC Theresianum Mainz to just 7 points in first quarter. Homburger TG forced 27 ASC Theresianum Mainz turnovers. Strangely ASC Theresianum Mainz outrebounded Homburger TG 42-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Homburger TG especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American forward Celia Marfone (183-94, college: Cal-Davis) scored 23 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Elena Popkey (168-94, college: Oakland) chipped in 22 points and 4 steals (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Homburger TG players scored in double figures. Coach Jay Brown's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side naturalized Bulgarian guard Gergana Georgieva (181-87) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and forward Eva Marschall (182-91) scored 8 points and 12 rebounds. Homburger TG maintains fourth position in South with 12-8 record, which they share with Rhein MB. Loser ASC Theresianum Mainz keeps the eleventh place with 17 games lost.
