Regular Season Round 18: Septemvri - Montana 2003 56-75

Date: March 22, 2017
Bottom-ranked Septemvri (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-56 loss to second ranked Montana 2003 (10-4) in Sofia. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Montana 2003. Septemvri was better in fourth quarter 17-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Montana 2003 forced 19 Septemvri turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for American center Leeza Burdgess (194-90, college: La Salle) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. The former international power forward Dimana Makarieva-Georgieva (188-88) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Montana 2003 players scored in double figures. Guard Ivona Ilieva (176-98) replied with 13 points and 8 assists and Koprina Rashova (180-93) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Septemvri. Septemvri's coach Aleksandar Apostolov rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Montana 2003 have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 10-4 record having just three points less than leader Haskovo 2012. Septemvri at the other side still closes the standings with 15 games lost. Montana 2003 will play against Beroe (#3) in Stara Zagora in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Septemvri will have a break next round.
