Regular Season Round 28: Vytautas - Lietkabelis 82-85

Fifth-ranked Vytautas (15-13) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Lietkabelis (20-8) in Prienai on Saturday. The visitors from Panevezys managed to secure only three-point victory 85-82. However their fans expected easier game. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 27-17. But Vytautas won second period 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietkabelis forced 19 Vytautas turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Ksistof Lavrinovic (209-79) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Australian swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Lietkabelis' coach Kazys Maksvytis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Vytenis Lipkevicius (196-89) replied with 22 points and forward Arturas Valeika (207-85, college: Midland CC) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Vytautas. Four Vytautas players scored in double figures. Lietkabelis maintains second position with 20-8 record having five points less than leader Zalgiris, which they share with Lietuvos rytas. Vytautas at the other side keeps the fifth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Juventus. Lietkabelis is looking forward to face Neptunas (#4) in Klaipeda in the next round. Vytautas will play on the road against Lietuvos rytas in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
