Regular Season Round 23: Mersin BSB - Istanbul Univ. 85-59

An interesting game took place in Mersin where higher ranked Istanbul Uni (12-10) was upset on the court of tenth ranked Mersin BSB (10-13) 85-59 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Istanbul Uni. They outrebounded Istanbul Uni 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Mersin BSB looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Istanbul Uni's players. It was a great evening for American swingman Marissa Coleman (185-87, college: Maryland) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Swedish Abdi Farhiya (188-92) helped adding 21 points and 8 rebounds. Four Mersin BSB players scored in double figures. American point guard Tan White (170-82, college: Mississippi St., agency: ProDep Management) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds and Latvian power forward Aija Putnina (191-88, agency: ProDep Management) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Mersin BSB moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Botas and Adana ASKI. Loser Istanbul Uni dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. Mersin BSB will face bottom-ranked Osmaniye (#14) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game.
