Regular Season Round 33: Mersin Gelisim - 55 Genclik 87-43

Bottom-ranked 55 Genclik (0-33) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-43 loss to ninth ranked Mersin Gelisim (19-14) in Mersin. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to 55 Genclik's 22. Mersin Gelisim forced 19 55 Genclik turnovers and outrebounded them 52-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by 55 Genclik's players. It was a good game for American center Nadia Parker (191-87, college: USC) who led her team to a victory with 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). The former international center Melike Yalcinkaya (189-93) contributed with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Parker is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Mersin Gelisim's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zekiye Bank answered with 29 points and Bilgesu Erduran added 2 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for 55 Genclik. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Mersin Gelisim. They maintain ninth place with 19-14 record. 55 Genclik lost their 33th game in a row. They still close the standings. Mersin Gelisim will play against higher ranked Bodrum (#5) in Mugla in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. 55 Genclik will play at home against Orduspor (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
