Important game to mention about took place in Ilhavo. Sixth ranked Illiabum (13-14) saved a 3-point victory at home edging second-ranked Benfica (20-7) 79-76 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Benfica. Illiabum dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Benfica's 30. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Benfica's players. Serbian power forward Nikola Tadic (206-88) nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Rashad Bishop (198-88, college: Cincinnati, agency: Basket Management Solutions) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) came up with 16 points and the other American import power forward Raven Barber (206, college: Mt.St.Mary's) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Benfica in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Illiabum maintains sixth place in Places 1-6 with 13-14 record. Benfica at the other side keeps the second position with seven games lost. They share it with Vitoria SC. Illiabum will play against higher ranked Vitoria SC (#3) in Guimaraes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Benfica will play on the road against Galitos-Barreiro and hopes to get back on the winning track.
