Tenth-ranked Deutsche Bank Skyliners (11-16) used its home court advantage to challenge sixth ranked Telekom Baskets (16-10) in Frankfurt on Sunday. The visitors from Bonn managed to secure only one-point victory 74-73. However their fans expected much easier game. The winners were led by American power forward Julian Gamble (208-89, college: Miami, FL) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Josh Mayo (181-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) supported him with 24 points and 5 assists. Telekom Baskets' coach Predrag Krunic used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 20 points by American guard AJ English (192-92, college: Iona) did not help to save the game for Deutsche Bank Skyliners. Danish guard Shavon Shields (201-94, college: Nebraska) added 19 points for lost side. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 16-10 record. Loser Deutsche Bank Skyliners keep the tenth place with 16 games lost. Telekom Baskets will meet at home Science City Jena (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Deutsche Bank Skyliners will play against SC Rasta Vechta and hope to secure a win.
