Regular Season Round 25: Tofas - Besiktas 94-95

Ninth-ranked Tofas (10-15) made lots of trouble for third ranked Besiktas (20-5) in Bursa on Saturday. The visitors from Istanbul managed to secure only one-point victory 95-94. However their fans expected much easier game. Besiktas outrebounded Tofas 41-29 including 26 on the defensive glass. Serbian center Vladimir Stimac (210-87, agency: Interperformances) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American forward Earl Clark (208-88, college: Louisville) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds. Besiktas' coach Ufuk Sarica used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side Dominican-American swingman Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) responded with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and American forward Tony Crocker (200-87, college: Oklahoma) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). Four Besiktas and five Tofas players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Besiktas. They maintain third place with 20-5 record having just three points less than leader Fenerbahce. Tofas lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 15 games lost. Besiktas will meet at home Banvit (#5) in the next round. Tofas will play against TED Kolejliler (#16) in Ankara and hope to secure a win.
