KBSL top team - Fenerbahce (20-5) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Girne Univ. (6-19) in Istanbul 90-81. Fenerbahce looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. French center Sandrine Gruda (193-87) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Hungarian-American guard Allie Quigley (178-86, college: De Paul) accounted for 24 points. Four Fenerbahce players scored in double figures. American guard Cappie Pondexter (175-83, college: Rutgers) came up with 29 points and 5 assists (made all of her nine free throws !!!) and American-Australian point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah) added 20 points, 8 assists and 4 steals respectively for Girne Univ. in the defeat. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-5 record. Loser Girne Univ. dropped to the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Fenerbahce will meet Botas (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Girne Univ. will play against Hatay (#6) and hope to secure a win.
