Second Stage Round 7: Maia Basket - Ovarense 80-97

Rather expected game when 11th ranked Maia Basket (5-24) lost at home to eighth ranked Ovarense (16-13) 97-80. Ovarense outrebounded Maia Basket 36-23 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. It was a great evening for Austrian-American forward Bryce Douvier (201-91, college: Texas A&M-CC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds. American point guard Nick Novak (182-90, college: Pitt-Johnstown) helped adding 20 points and 6 assists. Ovarense's coach Nuno Manarte allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side the former international forward Nuno Marcal (205-75) responded with 25 points and point guard Pedro Catarino (184-90) scored 17 points and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ovarense maintains eighth place in Places 7-12 with 16-13 record. Maia Basket lost third consecutive game. Maia Basket at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 24 games lost. Ovarense will play against higher ranked CAB Madeira (#7) in Funchal in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Maia Basket will play at home against Sampaense (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
