Regular Season Round 33: Zalgiris - Lietkabelis 84-62

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kaunas. First ranked Zalgiris faced 3rd placed Lietkabelis. Host Zalgiris (30-3) smashed guests from Panevezys (23-10) 84-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. The game without a history. Zalgiris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lietkabelis' 22. Zalgiris forced 20 Lietkabelis turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) who scored 15 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). International guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Australian swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta) who recorded 18 points and American point guard Lorenzo Williams (190-84, college: Rice) added 10 points and 5 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Zalgiris have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 30-3 record. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. Zalgiris are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Siauliai (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lietkabelis will play against the league's second-placed Lietuvos rytas (#2) in Vilnius and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
