Second Stage Round 8: Illiabum - FC Porto 44-88

LPB top team - FC Porto Ferpinta (24-6) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Illiabum (13-17) in Ilhavo 88-44. FC Porto Ferpinta dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Illiabum's 20. FC Porto Ferpinta forced 21 Illiabum turnovers. Illiabum was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American-Cape Verdean point guard Jeffrey Xavier (189-85, college: Providence) who scored that evening 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and international Miguel Queiroz (202-91) supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Five FC Porto Ferpinta players scored in double figures. Even 12 points and 4 assists by the former international point guard Joao Figueiredo (184-79) did not help to save the game for Illiabum. Serbian power forward Nikola Tadic (206-88) added 13 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position in Places 1-6 with 24-6 record. Illiabum lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth place with 17 games lost. FC Porto Ferpinta will play against Vitoria SC (#3) in Guimaraes in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Illiabum will play at home against Galitos-Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
