Second Stage Round 13: Zolotoi Vek - Khimik-2 110-72

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Khimik-2 (15-9) against fifth ranked Zolotoi Vek (14-10) on Saturday night. Visiting Khimik-2 was crushed by Zolotoi Vek in Kirovograd 110-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Khimik-2. The game was mostly controlled by Zolotoi Vek. Khimik-2 managed to win fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zolotoi Vek dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Khimik-2's 44 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Zolotoi Vek looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Khimik-2's players. Power forward Andriy Kulish (205-92) nailed 27 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side and forward Olexandr Drobiazko (196-93, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) accounted for 27 points. Five Zolotoi Vek players scored in double figures. Swingman Vitaliy Shortskiy (194-0) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds and guard Olexiy Solovyov (187-97) added 13 points respectively for Khimik-2 in the defeat. Khimik-2's coach Aleksandr Paschenko gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Zolotoi Vek maintains fifth place with 14-10 record. Loser Khimik-2 keeps the second position with nine games lost. They share it with Krivbas-2 and Politekhn.Lvov. Zolotoi Vek will meet league's second-placed Politekhn.Lvov in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Khimik-2 will play against Niko-Basket and hope to secure a win.
