Second Stage Round 9: Oliveirense - Benfica 79-62

The game between second ranked Benfica (23-8) and fourth ranked Oliveirense (21-10) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Benfica was defeated by Oliveirense in Oliveira 79-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Benfica. Oliveirense dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Benfica's 28. The best player for the winners was American swingman Carlos Morris (196-92, college: Minnesota, agency: AproK Sports Group) who scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import forward James Ellisor (195-90, college: Bemidji St.) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Oliveirense's coach Ricardo Rodrigues used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Nuno Oliveira (186-89) who recorded 11 points and 5 assists and American Derek Raivio (190-84, college: Gonzaga) added 11 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Four Benfica players scored in double figures. Oliveirense moved-up to third place in Places 1-6, which they share with Vitoria SC. Benfica at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Oliveirense is looking forward to face Vitoria SC (#3) in Guimaraes in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Benfica will play at home against Illiabum and is hoping to win this game.
