Rather expected game when 9th ranked Giessen 46ers (16-16) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Telekom Baskets (19-13) 102-85 on Friday. Telekom Baskets shot 66.7 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 62.5 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Josh Mayo (181-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who scored 20 points and 7 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). His fellow American import swingman Ryan Thompson (198-89, college: Rider, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Joshiko Saibou (188-90, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded 13 points and 7 assists and forward Benjamin Lischka (204-89) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Five Telekom Baskets and four Giessen 46ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Giessen 46ers lost their third game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 16 games lost. Telekom Baskets will face EWE Baskets (#7) in Oldenburg in the next round. Giessen 46ers will play on the road against Bayern Muenchen and hope to win that game.
