Thirteenth-ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (11-20) made lots of trouble for third ranked Brose Baskets (28-3) in Bamberg on Saturday. Brose Baskets managed to secure only one-point victory 85-84. However their fans expected much easier game. Brose Baskets made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Brose Baskets outrebounded Eisbaeren Bremerhaven 36-17 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Darius Miller (202-90, college: Kentucky) stepped up and scored 16 points and 7 assists for the winners and Slovenian point guard Aleksej Nikolic (191-95) chipped in 16 points. The best for the losing side was American swingman Quincy Diggs (198-90, college: Akron, agency: Mansfield and Associates) with 20 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and the other American import point guard Jordan Hulls (180-90, college: Indiana) scored 14 points. Five Brose Baskets and four Eisbaeren Bremerhaven players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Brose Baskets have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Loser Eisbaeren Bremerhaven keeps the thirteenth position with 20 games lost. Brose Baskets will meet Science City Jena (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Eisbaeren Bremerhaven will play against SC Rasta Vechta and hope to secure a win.
