An interesting game where Turk Telekom (#8) beat host Socar Petkim (#5) 83-77 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 20-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Turk Telekom dominated on the defensive end, holding Socar Petkim to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international swingman Serhat Cetin (197-86) chipped in 18 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. The former international Umit Sonkol (206-82) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Bulgarian power forward Kaloyan Ivanov (205-86, agency: BeoBasket) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Socar Petkim players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Turk Telekom will meet at home Samsun (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Socar Petkim will play against TED Kolejliler (#5) in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
